Why You Should Have Your Vehicle Towed Off The Road Immediately Before A Hurricane

Posted on: 17 September 2018

If there is a hurricane approaching your area and your vehicle is on the side of the road, such as if you've had a breakdown or if you have approached high water levels that you don't feel comfortable crossing, you shouldn't just leave your car where it is. Of course, this does not mean that you should put yourself in danger by driving the car in an area or condition in which you don't feel comfortable and safe. However, if possible, hire a 24-hour emergency towing company to come and tow your car off the side of the road before the hurricane comes. Here's why this should be a priority.

1. It Could Be Damaged by Debris

Protecting your car from hurricane-related damage is going to be a lot harder if you leave your car on the side of the road. One thing that you have to worry about is the potential of your vehicle being damaged by debris. A tree could fall, limbs could fall, or debris could be picked up by the high winds and could hit your vehicle. Having your car moved either to your home or a repair shop will help you protect it from this damage.

2. Water Damage Could Occur

Along with debris damage, you also have to worry about your vehicle being damaged by floodwaters during the hurricane. Rising water levels on the side of the road could flood your vehicle and even carry it away. A towing company can move your car before the storm comes to help prevent this from happening.

3. It Might Be in the Way

Lastly, you should think about whether or not your vehicle will be in the way during and after the hurricane. Both while a hurricane is raging and in the hours and days afterward, there are often many first responders and crews out there working to help with rescue and recovery efforts. If your car is on the side of the road during and after the storm, it could be in the way of linemen who are hoping to restore power for residents and business owners, rescue teams that are trying to rescue individuals who might be hurt or stranded, workers who are trying to move downed trees and other workers. Getting your car out of the way before the hurricane hits will help prevent it from getting in the way of any important efforts.

While driving through a hazardous storm, I want my windshield wipers to function correctly.
